2019 REUNION CONFERENCE and AGM – October 2019 – Hobart Tasmania

Afghanistan 105th Battery Troop Commemoration

A Commemoration of the 105th Battery Troop deployment as 105 Troop RA/RAA will be held in Brisbane on 13th April 2019 at 12:30 hrs at the 105th battery RAA Museum, Gallipoli Barracks Enoggera,  and afterwards lunch in the Brisbane CBD.

This commemoration is the 1st operational round fired in Combat by the Battery/ Troop since the Vietnam War, and 2019 is the 10th Anniversary of the event.

All Members and friends are invited to attend.  To register your attendance and to facilitate access to Gallipoli Barracks, contact the Association Asst. Membership Representative, MAJ Khalid El Khaligi.

Location: 105 Bty Museum, Gallipoli  Barracks (in the Guard Room Building)
Dress: Coat and Tie with Medals 
Sequence of events:
1200:  105 Troop and 105 Bty Association vets start to turn up to Gallipoli Barracks (1 Regt Guard Room members will assist with entry/sign in)
1230: Commemorative activity in 105 Bty museum – Afghanistan Room (led by MAJ Elkhaligi)
1300: Meet and greet with association members (105 Bty will run mobile boozer at the museum, so good idea to bring some coins/cash)
1330: Head into Brisbane CBD
1400: Late lunch and drinks at “the Bavarian” on eagle street pier” (optional)

Binh Ba Battle 50th Anniversary Commemoration 6th June 2019

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Binh Ba, a highly significant event in the history of the battery’s second tour.  Planning is underway for a commemorative event in Canberra, details are:

  • Date: Thursday 6 June 19.
  • A commemorative service at the Vietnam memorial commencing at 14:00hrs.
  • An afternoon tea following the service in the grounds of the Australian War Memorial.
  • A Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial at 16:40hrs honouring PTE Wayne Teeling, KIA at Binh Ba.
  • An all Corps dinner for veterans, partners and friends at the Canberra Rex Hotel at 18:45 for 19:00hrs.

The colours of 5RAR will be paraded at the commemorative service, which might also include a march past of veterans.

The colours will also be paraded at the Last Post Ceremony, at which representatives of 5RAR, B Sqn 1 Armd Regt, B Sqn 3 Cav Regt, and 105th Field Battery will lay wreaths.

The outline arrangements for the dinner are:

a.  Cost: $96/head for a 2 course dinner and a 3 hour drink package.  

b.  Start Time: 18:45 for a 19:00hrs; drinks available from 19:00hrs.

c.  Entree served from 19:30hrs.

d.  Main course will be alternate table drop.

e.  Drinks will be available on the tables, from staff circulating taking orders, or from the bar in the function room.  A range of beer, red and white wine, sparkling wine, soft drinks and tea and coffee will be supplied.

f.  Dress: collar and tie/suits and medals for men, evening dress for ladies.

The Canberra organizing Committee has arranged special rates for accommodation at the Canberra Rex Hotel.  Contact the hotel for details.
